This is Lord Elkanah Macdonald of Arden and I am Lady Juliana Foxcroft, for whom this little cottage is named. Won't you come in, sit by the fire and make yourself comfortable?
Much has happened since Coronation back in April. Horse and Falcon/King's Company of Archers/Crown Tourney was held over Memorial Day Weekend. It was rainy and chilly most of the first day, and we had several downpours during the Crown Tournament, which was well and honourably fought by all; JoeAngus emerged victorious for his lady, Phaedra. Sunday dawned clear and beautiful, and the Archery tourneys were on. Arden took first place in the unranked division with a score of 109 and became the Baronial Archer Champion for Forgotten Sea. He has also recently taken on the office of Deputy Archer Marshal for the Canton of Cum An Iolar.
We had a lot of fun at Raid & Trade. We drove up early Saturday morning, set up camp, and I pretty much spent the day working on a C&I project. There were mundanes coming through to observe and one lady even took my picture (and a picture of the scroll) for the newspaper. Since we don't live in Iowa I don't know if it made the paper or not. Anyway, the kids had a lot of fun making more friends; Elyzabeth won the Quest for Amber, and Ulliam took first place in the thrown weapons competition. Later that evening Arden helped get the bonfire blazing, and we had a wonderful time singing and/or listening to the songs and stories there.
Kingdom Arts & Sciences was very well attended, and there were many, many excellent projects to be seen, with HL Rory takng top honors at the end of the day. Afterward there was dancing downstairs, for which we stayed for a short while before heading out in search of something to eat. Unfortunately downtown Atchison was packed to the gills due to various other things happening there that evening, so we ended up heading home and having a nice meal there instead.
Feast of Eagles was hot, but everyone seemed to be having a good time regardless. I was at loose ends with no assigned area in which to help; Elyzabeth was busy in the kitchen helping prepare and then serve Feast, and the rest of us enjoyed watching the fighting and visiting with friends. There were some really good and creative entries in the A&S competition, with Lady Gabrielle La Roche's authentic hairdo taking the gold.
Now we're planning our future travels. There are many good events coming up soon.... this weekend is Snowflake and the 7 Boars in Herald's Hill (Mason City, IA) and Tribal Revelries in Warrensburg, MO; Valor Tourney is coming up the weekend of August 30-September 1, and Coronation is only a week after Valor. We're still trying to figure out which events we want to attend in October and November - there are a lot of good ones! - and I've already taken off Friday, Dec. 12 to help with setup for Kris Kinder.
Work on the "Chatelaine's Page" continues; mundane life and computer issues have prevented some of what I had wanted to add but hopefully those issues have been resolved and I plan to do more work this coming weekend.
